the volcano society
The Volcano Society is a polyptych of four mixed-media paintings in a series by Dan Lynch, inspired by the Red Hat Society and the Wayside Inn, a colonial-era inn in Sudbury, Massachusetts. A book entitled The Volcano Society by Stanzie Kensinger explores the lives of women who have had lives and have stories to tell. The art will be shown at the Texas Collaborative Art Projects and Nau-haus Gallery in Houston, Texas on November 6 through the 28th, 2010 as part of an exhibition of the group Negativland, who make fine art, music, movies, radio and performances using found images and sounds. An expanded exhibition will be shown at the Museum of the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach, California in November, 2011. Dan Lynch and Stanzie Kensinger are artists from California. Now living in Stow, Massachusetts, they share an intrigue of the history and landscape of New England, which has influenced their creative work.
